Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about using your Poppy device.

Poppy doesn’t pronounce my child’s name correctly. How can I fix this?

If Poppy is mispronouncing your child’s name, you can provide a phonetic spelling to correct it.

  1. Start by going to the settings portal and selecting your child’s device.
  2. Scroll down to the “Profile” section and click the pencil icon.
  3. Click “Add phonetic spelling” and enter your preferred phonetic spelling
  4. Click “Save” to apply the changes.

Note: changing this setting currently only affects pronunciation on that device.

Why doesn’t the device connect to the network I recently added?

The most common reason for this is that the device was not online when you added the new network so it was unable to download the new settings.

To resolve this problem, connect to a previously configured network and wait until the device is online. It will download the new network information and then you should be able to connect to the new network.

Why doesn’t the device connect to my mobile phone’s WiFi hotspot?

Poppy devices only support 2.4GHz WiFi networks, so if your phone’s hotspot is set to 5GHz, the device will not be able to connect.

To resolve this on Apple (iOS) devices:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap on Personal Hotspot.
  3. Look for the option labeled Maximize Compatibility and ensure it is on.

To resolve this on Android devices:

  1. Open the Wi-Fi hotspot settings on your Android device.
  2. Look for the option called Speed & compatibility.
  3. Ensure that the setting is set to Compatible or 2.4GHz.
